Halloween parties, daylight savings, alternate side parking, oh my
Drive safe, be safe with the extra time, and
park on correct side of the street Sunday morning
Three big events collide in possibly spectacular fashion this weekend in La Crosse.
Halloween festivities begin on Saturday night and will, for many, blend into the early morning hours of Sunday.
Sunday morning at 2 a.m. is when daylight saving time ends, which means the Halloween fun can go on for just a little bit longer.
But, there’s also a parking situation. Sunday morning, alternate side parking begins, meaning after 1 a.m. cars will have to be on the appropriate side of the street in La Crosse, Onalaska and West Salem.
So, those getting home after exhausting the bar-time limits of ghoulish festivities will have to figure out where to park to avoid a ticket, as well. But, you may be off the hook in that regard this weekend.
La Crosse police sergeant Randy Rank says they’ll write only warnings the first two nights.
Police write thousands of alternate-side tickets every year, even when there wasn’t a snowflake in sight. Last year, police wrote just over 13,000 tickets November through March.
A first offense for the parking violation is $10. Multiple violations can push that amount to as high as $40.
