Analyst says La Crosse housing market not seeing new rentals

City has bounced back better than surrounding cities

The housing market in La Crosse may be in a slight slump right now, but the growth in housing has been fairly steady since the recession.

Federal Reserve analyst Ron Wirtz tells an audience from the La Crosse business community that even though rental units make up about 50 percent of the housing in town, not many new rental properties are being built. 

In general, Wirtz says La Crosse has bounced back from the recession better than similar-sized cities in the region, such as Rochester, Minn., and Eau Claire, Wis.
