Lawsuit over BNSF line through La Crosse marsh still not settled
CARS group hoping to change DNR procedure
It may seem like a moot point now, but a lawsuit over the new BNSF track in La Crosse still hasn’t been settled.
The rail line through the marsh was completed weeks ago, despite attempts by opponents to halt construction while the permitting process was under dispute in court.
Maureen Freedland of the group Citizens Acting for Rail Safety (CARS) says it never tried to stop the railroad work completely, once it was started.
The suit by CARS accused the DNR of failing to do proper research on the project before approving construction permits. Freedland hopes the eventual ruling on the suit will help change DNR procedures.
