Newt, in town Sunday, expresses love for Paul Ryan as speaker

Former speaker thinks Ryan is in stronger
position than former speaker Boehner

From a former speaker of the house comes a ringing endorsement for the new guy.

Newt Gingrich, who will be in La Crosse Sunday for a book signing, really likes Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan as the new speaker. Gingrich calls Ryan the best possible choice for the job

“And I think Ryan did it just right.  He said to house republicans, ‘I’m not going to campaign for this job, if you really want me to do it then I’ll do it but the burden’s on you.’ And the house republicans came together and said, ‘yes.’”

Gingrich believes that strategy has put Ryan in a far stronger position as speaker than the just departed John Boehner.

At 1:30 p.m., Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista will be at the La Crosse Barnes and Noble on Sunday. Each have book signings.
