Kabat finding ways to save taxpayer money within governement
UW-L study has shown places to cut costs
La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat can do more than wish and hope for a chance to find big cost savings by getting rid of duplicated services in local governments.
Kabat’s been emboldened in his quest to do so by the new University of Wisconsin-La Crosse study that shows huge possibilities to save money and points to examples of those things already being done elsewhere.
UW-L political scientist John Kovari authored the study on service overlap in city and county government.
“It takes political will, it takes leadership and, yet, there is precedent,” Kovari said.
Kovari added he was a bit surprised to find just how much taxpayers might be able to save by reducing duplicated services. In some cases, those savings could be hundreds of dollars per year.
