La Crosse city clerk could get raise
Position has gone years without raise
The city clerk could be the next in line for a pay raise in La Crosse’s city hall.
The clerk is the only elected office in the city, besides the mayor, that’s a full time job. While the mayor’s position got a pay increase in 2009, and the city council is voting again tonight to increase the pay, it appears to have been several years since the clerk got a pay boost.
The latest proposal would increase the clerk’s pay by a couple thousand dollars to just over $72,000 a year.
The city council will consider that increase next month.
Meanwhile, while mayor Tim Kabat hasn’t said he would for certain veto a mayoral raise, he did say that his position on the pay bump hasn’t increased from when he vetoed a proposed increase to $85,000.
The proposal getting voted on tonight would increase the salary for the position to just under $80,000 and would only go into effect after the next election.
