DOT narrows road plans through La Crosse down to six

One option for corridor was a road through French Island

They went from 18 strategies for improving local transportation down to six.

Now, planners from the Wisconsin DOT have taken one last set of public comments before setting out to choose a master strategy for the next 30 years.

At a meeting Thursday, Andy Winga with the DOT described several new road options, including one which would take traffic from I-90 through French Island into downtown

Citizens attending the meeting at Central High School had some doubts about the DOT plans.

Some suggested that the state should fix existing roads first before building new ones and should do a thorough study of how new highways would affect the marsh area.
