Miller resigns from La Crosse city council

In 2013, Miller was first African-American elected to council

A resignation from the city council was announced Thursday night. 

Northside city council rep Dempsey Miller is leaving the council for employment reasons.  

Miller left his job with the La Crosse school district in the summer to begin work as an education consultant in the Twin Cities. 

In his resignation letter, Miller urged local employers to be more proactive in increasing diversity in their workforces and talked about the lingering bigotry in the city. 

In 2013, Miller was the first African-American elected to the city council.
