Planners project La Crosse population to increase by 1,000 per year

A ‘no’ vote on a La Crosse highway referendum 17 years ago was not designed to be binding forever.

But one leader of the opposition to the north-south corridor still doesn’t think the need exists yet for a road through the marsh.

Chuck Lee from Friends of the Marsh also doubts that there’s a need yet for a new referendum on the matter.

Lee spoke last night at a DOT hearing on transportation issues at Central High School. DOT planners project that La Crosse County’s population could increase by 35,000 in the next 35 years, so new roads should be an option.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
