City council keeps approving mayoral raise, mayor keeps vetoing
Mayor likely to veto raise
for position to $80,000
The second veto from La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat could be coming soon.
The mayor has all but said he would veto a just-passed proposal to increase the pay for his position to just under $80,000, a provision passed by the council on Thursday.
Even before that vote, proposal author Martin Gaul was urging Kabat to restrain himself.
“I understand fully that will take some political courage on your part to let this stand and, respectfully sir, I would ask you to find that courage.”
But Kabat has said his position on the issue hasn’t really changed since he vetoed the last raise proposal several weeks ago. That was the first veto Kabat issued since he’s been in office.
