City council could approve 2016 plan tonight
Could add officers to the streets
and no property tax levy hike
Pay increases for city staff and additional officers on the streets, those are part of an operating budget for next year the La Crosse city council could approve at a special meeting today.
The $72-million plan involves a one-percent total spending increase for the city, no property tax levy hike and additional officers on the street.
Part of the plan for adding police is to move officers from three eight-hour shifts to two twelve-hour shifts.
The budget plan does involve some fee increases. Dozens of them, including a doubling of the construction noise permit fee and a more than doubling of the license fees to keep chickens.
