Homeowners want no-wake zone on Mississippi

Boaters want the opposite,
but new dock would prevent that

Local homeowners living along the river get upset with boaters who speed past their property, not caring that they might be making waves that ruin the shoreline.

A couple of those homeowners have gone to the La Crosse Harbor Commission this week, asking for help to set up a slow zone or no-wake area. Commission chairman Marc Schultz isn’t surprised that many boat owners don’t want to slow down near homes. 

Boaters would like the commission to lift speed restrictions on the Mississippi River near Riverside Park, but plans for having a Viking River Cruises dock in La Crosse might require continued speed limits.
