Homeless children can’t get same benefits as adults

They might be from troubled families or they have drug and alcohol abuse problems.

But, a couple hundred young people in the La Crosse School District are classified as homeless and cannot apply for assistance that’s open to adults who need shelter.

Jamie Schlegel from the Family and Children’s Center of La Crosse says ‘host homes’ are being sought in the community to take in the homeless youth.

Schlegel says many families have volunteered to be hosts, and they’re being evaluated in order to match needy kids with households that can take them.
