Wisconsin schools don’t mesh with new transgender bill
Bill outlaws unisex bathrooms with more than one stall
Some accommodations that Wisconsin school districts have made for transgender students would be illegal under a proposal meant to address what bathrooms those students can use.
The bill getting a public hearing today in Madison is dealing with those bathroom issues. The bill outlaws any unisex bathroom that has more than one stall.
It would also make it illegal for visitors to a school to take a very small child into a bathroom of the opposite sex. Also, private schools funded by vouchers and charters schools would not be covered by the bill.
Authors say the safeguards in the legislation are necessary to fight potential lawsuits by the federal government against individual school districts.
