Hundreds celebrated Thanksgiving at 33rd community dinner

Event was almost cancelled a few weeks ago

Hundreds gathered at the La Crosse Center for Thanksgiving dinner.

The 33rd Annual La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner was served for about four hours, but it took several to prepare for the event led by chef Chris Roderique, from Piggy’s Restaurant.

La Crosse almost didn’t have its community dinner this year for the first time since the early 1980s when it began. A shortage of people on the planning committee led organizers to cancel the event a few weeks ago, but within days, the dinner was on again as many new volunteers came forward.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
