Study depicts Rotary Lights most valuable La Crosse celebration

Oktoberfest comes in No. 2 in UW-L study

According to one study, it’s the most valuable community celebration for the La Crosse economy, and it starts tonight.

Rotary Lights begins its third decade this evening with a downtown parade, followed by the lighting ceremony at Riverside Park.

Pat Stephens, president of Rotary Lights, says the No. 1-ranking resulting from that University of Wisconsin-La Crosse study will be promoted in the future.

Oktoberfest was rated the second most valuable festival in the La Crosse area. Rotary Lights will run for 35 nights, from now until New Year’s Eve.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
