Mississippi conservancy now has over 17,000 acres

Over 4,000 acres open for outdoor activities

It 17,000 acres, an area bigger than the entire city of La Crosse and the town of Campbell, too.

With a couple of new additions this week, the Mississippi Valley Conservancy now counts that many acres that the La Crosse organization has placed in a permanent conservation.

Seems like a pretty big deal to MVC director, Carol Abrahamzon.

“We work every day diligently, trying to do the best that we can,” Abrahamzon said. “But when you hit a benchmark like this it just gets everybody enthused and excited and ready to do more.”

The conservancy has preserved land in nine counties. The latest tracts add up to about 500 acres in Grant and Crawford counties. 

Of the 17,000 acres the MVC has in some kind of conservation arrangement, 4,000 of that is open to the public for fishing, hunting, hiking and other outdoor activities.
