Louie Ferris said checks
came in from all over country

Louie Ferris just needed $3,000 in donations to help honor those who fought during the Korean War with a monument in Riverside Park.

The vice president of the Korean War Veterans Association in La Crosse got that in one check and then some.

The northside resident says he’s collected five times as much money as he had hoped for. As soon as word got out, Ferris said the checks started pouring in.

“They kind of came out of the woodwork,” Ferris said. “They’re all over, as far as California, Arizona, Vermont.”

Ferris says the original fundraising goal was met in one day with one check. The memorial will go next to the cannon on the western side of Riverside Park.
