City council could override mayor veto tonight
Twice, mayor Kabat has
vetoed a raise for his position
Tonight, there’s a chance to override the veto of La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat.
The city council is scheduled to vote on whether to override the veto Kabat issued last month on a proposal to raise the pay for his position. It’s the second time he’s vetoed a raise.
The first time, earlier this year, happened when the council agreed to raise the pay for mayor to $85,000 a year. This time, the proposal’s for just a hair under $80,000.
Those are the only two vetoes Kabat has issued since he’s been in office. If the council can override, the increase in pay would go into effect after the next election for mayor in 2017.
