Attorney claims city breaking rental laws
City set to repeal
inspection ordinance
It’s still breaking the law.
That’s the claim from La Crosse attorney Bernardo Cueto on the city rules regarding rental inspections. The city council is set to repeal part of the inspection ordinance that an appeals court found violated state law.
That’s good, says Cueto, though the city is currently breaking the law in enforcement of the rental rules.
He sees a wave of change coming from state legislators.
“We got a lot of people, republicans in this state, (that) are powerful and they’re saying, ‘enough’ with these cities treating landlords and treating tenants like they’re second-class citizens,” Cueto said.
Cueto successfully sued the city over the part of the rental inspection ordinance that the city council is likely to overturn.
