Mayor and clerk’s salaries
are now $2,200 apart

There will be no raise for La Crosse’s mayor.

The city council, in a Thursday night meeting,  failed to override mayor Tim Kabat’s veto to increase the pay for his position.

It’s the second veto on the same issue, and the second time the council hasn’t been able to muster enough votes to override.

Meanwhile, the council had no problem agreeing to increase the pay for the city clerk to $75,000.

It’s the first pay increase for the elected clerk in years. That increase will take effect after spring elections in 2017.

The raise for the city clerk is $5,000 and puts the position pretty close to the mayoral position’s salary of $77,200. The raise proposal for the mayor was to boost pay to $80,000.
