Debrief on bomb scare at UW-L coming
Emergency director says
situation was handled well
A debriefing should be held toward the end of this month on the response to a potential bomb on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus last week.
The La Crosse county emergency management director Keith Butler said campus security will consider how it dealt with, what turned out to be, some empty suitcase left behind by a couple taking a bus to Rochester, Minn.
Butler says, what he could see during the response while at the university last Tuesday was that campus cops handled the whole thing pretty well. Butler also said the bomb squad brought in from Madison considered the safety perimeter set up by police as adequate for the situation.
There was talk about notifying nearby La Crosse Housing Authority assisted-living buildings. But, it was determined that potentially causing an evacuation from those buildings could cause more problems than it would solve.
