Health insurance deadline extended two days
Deadline is now midnight Thursday
The Health insurance marketplace saw an unprecedented surge of consumer visits Tuesday, the last day to sign up.
Since many people were not able to get through the long wait times over the phone or online, the centers for Medicaid and Medicare services extended the January 1 coverage deadline until midnight Thursday.
People now have two extra days to go on healthcare.gov or call the marketplace to make sure their coverage will start Jan 1. You can call 211 to find free, local assistance with enrolling.
Though December 17 is the deadline for January 1 coverage, open enrollment will go through January 31.
