Iverson-Freking Award winners named

Ashley, Donaldson recipients
of award in its 30th year

One is a Baptist clergyman, the other is a nun, and the two are this year’s winners of the Iverson-Freking Award in La Crosse.

They share similar attitudes toward community service and respect for each other.

At a news conference Tuesday, Pastor Timothy Ashley of First Baptist Church said volunteering helps people work together, breaking down stereotypes. Sister Bridget Donaldson of Holmen, Wis., said people should get together to use their gifts and talents.

The two award winners for 2016 will be honored at the Iverson-Freking luncheon at the Radisson on January 20.

This is the 30th year of the award presented by the Bethany-St. Joseph Corp., to promote volunteers who set a spiritual example.

The award is in memory of Lutheran businessman Carl Iverson and Catholic Bishop Frederick Freking.  

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
