The holiday cheer is spreading like mad in the La Crosse area.

Anonymous donations have allowed the La Crosse Police Dept. Neighborhood Resource Officers to make Christmas a little brighter for 24 families.

You may have seen the community officers distributing gift cards to needy families this week. They were wearing blue, but also wearing Santa caps.

Forty-four children had big smiles as the gifts were distributed. The cards, from Festival Foods and Toys “R” Us, were purchased by someone who approached police looking to help families in need.

Police chief Ron Tischer says the resource officers worked with the Boys and Girls Club of La Crosse to identify those children who had made positive impacts at the club and in the community.
