Still complaints about parking, despite plenty of space in ramps

Seemingly unknown: Parking in ramps
is free for first three hours

La Crosse has four public parking ramps downtown, and a fifth ramp is being planned along Third Street.

Despite the volume of available parking, downtown businesses still hear complaints that customers can’t find places to park.

Downtown Mainstreet director Robin Moses wants to fight the no-parking perception with a marketing campaign.

Moses believes that even locals don’t seem to know about the three-hour free parking in unreserved spaces and the free hours on nights and weekends – until 1 a.m.

But that may be, partly, because there’s no detailed online information of the ramps.

One page provides zero information as to how much the ramps cost at any time of the day.

Another page hasn’t been updated since March, 2014 and also makes zero mention of cost to park.

But if you want to know the costs, you can sit uncomfortably at the gate and read about it, while hoping nobody is waiting behind you, late for work. Or read the sign at the top of this story.
