Family wants drugs off the streets
The Hougom family continues giving.
The family of Sara Hougom, murdered in her La Crosse apartment more than three years ago, has repeatedly organized fundraisers for the La Crosse police department in the name of Sara.
The latest, a spaghetti dinner in November that raised $620 for the department’s K9 units.

Because, says Sara’s mom Sherry, the dogs help fight the drug problem that was partly to blame for Sara’s murder
“My daughter was taken violently,” Sherry Hougom said, “and the thugs, the monsters that took my baby were ‘cloudy’ on meth.
“In the courtroom they said they were ‘cloudy’ on meth. Drugs are such a cancer of this society. They deteriorate values, they wreck family lives. The hard drugs just need to be off the streets.”
The Hougom’s presented a check to the department in a brief ceremony Thursday.
