Northside Boys and Girls Club looking to expand

Plans for that go in front
of design committee today

The Terry Erickson Boys and Girls club on La Crosse’s north side could get bigger in the new year.

It all, however, depends on fundraising. And, on city approval, which is part of the process happening today as plans for building expansion go before a design committee.

Executive director Mike Desmond says those expansion plans, plus the growing list of services the club provides, says something about the organization.

“I think it says something about, you know, we have stuck our resources meeting what I think are the needs of the kids and it’s increased out population,” Desmond said, “We’re more than just a place to hang out.”

But the growing number of kids that the club serves every day, says Desmond, seems to be a strong indicator of the increasing rates of poverty in some areas of the city.
