Holmen chief McHugh honored by FBI

McHugh, retiring today, has
served in law for 42 years

HOLMEN, Wis. – The long-time police chief of Holmen gets a rare honor for his upcoming retirement today.

Mike McHugh is being recognized for 36 years with the Holmen Police – he’s served in law enforcement for 42 years – with a certificate from the FBI.

The La Crosse FBI office presented him with a certificate honoring his law enforcement career, signed by bureau director James Comey. The police department says the only other area chief who has received the FBI honor is retired La Crosse Chief Ed Kondracki.

Lt. Shane Collins will succeed McHugh as chief in Holmen early in the new year.

McHugh, who began serving as chief in 1979, will have a party tonight at the Holmen American Legion.

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
