New justice support manager ready for changes

Vasupuram takes over in
February in La Crosse

After two decades of sending 17-year-old lawbreakers to adult court, Wisconsin legislators could soon put those teens back in the juvenile system.

The newly-hired head of justice support in La Crosse County is ready for the proposed change. Rukmini Vasupuram is working on how the sanctions programs could handle the increase in juveniles.

Vasupuram, who now works as an assistant district attorney for the county, also has ideas for how the county offers justice support for women, such as Ophelia’s House.

She’ll succeed Jane Klekamp as justice support manager in February.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
