St. Thomas More School demolished for church
New construction project
to cost over $5.6 million
A piece of La Crosse history is now gone. The St. Thomas More School has been demolished to make way for a new parish hall to be connected to the church.
The Mary, Mother of the Church Parish started a capital campaign in September for construction project estimated to cost over $5.6 million.
The original school building was built in 1947 and opened in 1948. It served as a Catholic grade school and most of its students went on to attend Aquinas High School.
But in 2012, major structure deficiencies were identified and the building was no longer safe to occupy.
