Two fires since Thanksgiving during local prevention campaign

Wreath Green through New Year’s

A holiday fire safety campaign in the La Crosse area has been very successful.

Local fire stations displayed Christmas wreaths with green lights throughout December, called Keep the Wreath Green.

Green lights would turn red each time a fire occurred in the participating communities on the six-foot wreath at the stations in La Crosse, La Crescent, Campbell and Onalaska.

Fires happened just twice in December – one in La Crosse and another in La Crescent – according to La Crosse assistant chief Warren Thomas

Neither fire was related to holiday decorations. The campaign ends on New Year’s Day and began on Thanksgiving.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
