Final leases approved for two La Crosse senior centers
After leases finalized, groups
have opp. to buy buildings for $1
Final leases on La Crosse’s two senior centers may be signed soon.
Monday, the city’s Board of Public Works and Plan Commission approved a plan that would lead to the final five-year leases between the city and the organizations that run the senior centers.
At the end of the lease, the city would offer both centers – the Harry J. Olson Center on North Street, built in 1887 and the Southside Center on Denton Street built in 1895 – for sale for $1 each. If neither group buys the buildings, they would be offered for sale to the public as surplus property.
The city has long sought a long-term solution for the centers, which both have significant repair needs costing tens of thousands of dollars, according to recent architectural and engineering reports.
