La Crosse mayor wants approval for $50,000 on revenue sharing consultant
City council to vote on plan tonight
The next move from La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat should have been obvious.
Kabat got a report on the cost of city services used by surrounding communities and how combining services could save big money on individual property taxes.
Clearly, Kabat had his sights set on an issue that needed solving.
“One of the routes that the city should be looking at,” Kabat said, “is this acknowledgment that we are providing regional services to those in the larger region, and they’re not contributing to the cost of those services.”
Kabat wants the city council to approve spending $50,000 in reserve cash on a consultant to put together a plan for revenue sharing among communities and for fees that can be charged for some city services like parks, libraries and police.
A city council committee votes on that plan tonight. The full council weighs in next week.
Kabat wants a plan in place in time to be part of planning for next year’s city operating budget.
