Lots of plans from DOT in region, but some may never get done

millions in infrastructure

No matter what the Wisconsin DOT decides to do to improve transportation for the La Crosse region, some of it may never get done.

The state agency has a half dozen separate groups of improvements that are possibilities for getting traffic in and out of La Crosse more efficiently.

Expect to hear more about those later this month from the DOT.

If any of the final options include significant road building, it’s very likely that the city will simply say no, refusing the $100-million-plus in infrastructure that the state says it wants to spend in the region.

The city council will likely vote on in February – a resolution that will turn down transportation funding for a multitude of different possibilities.

Those include building a road through the marsh or creating much busier highway type roads out of other city streets. The city, however, is open to other improvements, like a bridge connecting the end of French Island across the Black River to a Riverside North development.
