When couples divorce, should alimony be required indefinitely to make their incomes equal?

A Wisconsin appeals court is sending one La Crosse area-divorce case back to circuit court to settle that question.

A doctor appealed a local court ruling that required him to increase the regular payments to his ex, after he received a raise in his income.

The appeals court reversed the order calling for higher payments, arguing that Wisconsin law does not require a spouse to get one-half of the other’s salary forever.
