Gundersen nearly sets record for organ donars

list in Wisconsin

Organ donations are catching on with patients at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.

The medical center had 12 organ donors from those who died – second highest ever with 13 being its most.

Recent medical records show more than 2,000 people in Wisconsin are waiting for an organ donation. The number waiting in Minnesota is above 3,000.

Donation liaison and registered nurse Melissa Revels says corneas are the top tissue that is transplanted in the U.S. with kidneys and livers being the most commonly donated organs.
