Central principal receives award for AVID program

AVID preps students for college

In just a couple years of operation, a college prep program in the La Crosse area has been able to grow quickly.

The AVID program operating at Logan and Central high schools received the Leadership Award for this year from the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.

Accepting the award at a Monday luncheon, Central principal Jeff Fleig, who said the program provides help for many students who might otherwise have trouble getting into college. 

About 300 students a year just in La Crosse will be able to enter the college readiness program when it expands to the high school grade levels next fall.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
