Possibly 2nd fire death in La Crosse since 2012, and last 8 days
And, second time
no smoke alarms
La Crosse could have its second fire death since 2012 and its second fire death in the last eight days.
A body has been discovered in the kitchen of a south La Crosse house that was on fire Monday afternoon.
Firefighters got the call to the 3000 block of Scarlett Drive and found a person lying dead on the kitchen floor.
Crews put out the small fire and shut off electricity and gas to the house. There were no smoke alarms sounding.
A cat was taken out of the house.
Investigators don’t know what caused the person’s death or how the fire started.
The last fire death happened on Jan. 18 when a 65-year-old woman died at the hospital after being rescued by firemen from a burning house on Hass Street.
That house, too, did not have working smoke alarms.
