Doerflinger owner seeking city loan, grant for $2 million in improvements

A loan and a grant from La Crosse city hall will help smooth the path for a national retailer to set up shop in an historic downtown building.

Mike Keil, the Owner of the Doerflinger building, is seeking tens of thousands of dollars to help pay for improvements in advance of the Duluth Trading Company opening a store there.

Keil is looking to secure about 10 percent of the nearly $2 million in improvements that he plans on making to the building. The clothing retailer plans to occupy the entire 10,000-square-foot space on the first floor.

The city council will weigh in on the financing plan starting next week.
