Republicans getting flak for “nonpartisan” county board candidates
Party chair says he’s just trying
to get people to run in Tuesday’s election
Tuesday, two primaries will be on the ballot for La Crosse County board races.
County Republican Party chair Bill Feehan should probably get the most credit for that, as he has actively recruited candidates to run for county board.
“We just think that people deserve to have a choice at the polls so we’ve just tried to get people to run,” Feehan said. “And when they can, we try to help them. “
He has, however gotten flak for that locally, because of the mixture of partisan and supposedly nonpartisan politics. Feehan is not impressed by his critics.
“I think it’s very dishonest,” he said. “The impression that they’re trying to lead with people is that the rep party is involved in these nonpartisan races and it’s unprecedented, and nothing could be further from the truth.”
Feehan believes he’s doing the same thing democrats have been at for years.
La Crosse Democratic Party chair Vicki Burke is among those who face a primary challenge for her county board seat.
