Vacant city council seat could remain that way if council president has his way
Swantz wants to wait until
November to have special election
It will be months before a vacant La Crosse city council seat is filled. That’s council president Dick Swantz’s plan, anyway.
“There have been questions raised by constituents living in the district, and there have been questions raised by my fellow council members,” Swantz said.
There are a number of options for filling the vacancy but Swantz cites the confusion over council redistricting for wanting to wait until November to have a special election for the second district seat on the city’s north side
“It seems to me, it’s going to allow for a better understanding of what’s all going on here, if we let this run out its natural course and hold a special election,” Swantz said.
Dempsey Miller resigned the second-district council seat at the beginning of the year after essentially living and working in another city for several months before that.
Swantz could have also opted to appoint someone to a council seat or wait until regular council elections next year.
