Lots of weed and shroom-growing operation

When you’re doing police work, sometimes you just have to follow your nose.

That’s apparently what police did in following up on a theft investigation in La Crosse on Monday.

The La Crosse Police Dept. said, during the investigation, it smelled a very strong odor of marijuana coming from an apartment on Pine Street.

Looking inside, it was pretty clear there was some kind of drug operation going on, as a huge glass jar of marijuana was plainly in sight, along with what appeared to be a large psychedelic mushroom growing operation.

Police came back with a warrant and found, not only lots of marijuana and marijuana candy and gummies and even marijuana chocolate taffy, but also 14 half-gallon jars of psychedelic mushroom spores.

Arrested on drug charges (below, left to right): 21-year-old Austin Kaufman, 24-year-old Alissa Arenz and 19-year-old Hunter Mathison. Kaufman was convicted of drug dealing charges just last April in La Crosse.
