Sen. Ron Johnson wants president to quit early
Act ends regulations put in
place by president in final days
It’s not just a Supreme Court nomination process that Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson wants to stop.
He’d like to put an end to plenty else that President Barack Obama does in during his final days in office.
That’s the point of the Republican’s so-called Midnight Rule Relief Act, which calls for an end to any really big regulations put into place between presidential election day and when the new president gets sworn into office.
The GOP tried to do the same thing in 2012.
Johnson says the regulations that presidents push through during the time between the presidential election in November and when the new president gets sworn in next January.
Johnson points to president Obama as one who is prone to “overreaching” and so can be counted on to create a whole slew of politically-motivated regulations.
The bill would allow the president to repeal regulations, just not create any new ones that could be interpreted as having a substantial impact on the American economy.
Johnson’s proposal would allow exceptions for, among other things, national security reasons.
