Onalaska girls headed to the state tournament

Hilltoppers play at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Green Bay

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Onalaska High School girls basketball team is headed to state.

The Hilltoppers took down Hortonville 59-52 Saturday in the Division 2 section finals.

At 1:30 p.m. Friday, Onalaska (21-5) will play fourth-ranked Stoughton (24-2) at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis.

Against the fifth-ranked Polar Bears (22-4), Onalaska used a 9-0 run to end the first half, and headed into the locker room up 24-23. It led by just a point with just under 2 minutes remaining before pulling away.

Emma Gamoke led Onalaska with 11 points – all scored in the second half – while teammate Josie Thomas added 10.
