More evidence raw milk causes sour stomachs

The debate continues over whether people should be able to consume raw milk. It was the subject of much debate in Wisconsin a few years ago, when some passionate about being able to drink raw, rather than pasteurized milk, tried to make it legal to sell raw milk in the state. That effort failed, but some in the legislature continue to bring it up. That seems like a bad idea. Just look what happened in Durand, Wisconsin two years ago. 22 members of the Durand football team became sick after drinking raw milk that was served at a potluck dinner for the team. The team had to cancel two football games because so many players were sick they couldn’t field a team. Fast forward to this week, when in the state of West Virginia, a group of lawmakers was invited to drink raw milk as they considered changing that state’s laws. A handful of lawmakers who sampled the milk straight from the cow ended up getting sick. I’m no doctor, but I’m not buying the argument from supporters of raw milk that it was just coincidence that it was the raw milk which made them sick. This seems to be plenty of proof that raw milk at least can people sick, and it remains the government’s job to keep people safe. Selling raw milk should remain illegal, so we can avoid all these sour stomachs.
