Artist Kim Vaughter won button-design contest

Oktoberfest is still more than six months away, but we know what the 2016 fest button will look like.

The design by local artist Kim Vaughter was revealed at the Forks and Corks fundraiser Thursday night at the La Crosse Center. 

It shows the hands of two people toasting the festival, but not with mugs of beer.

“I thought an interesting way to twist that around was to give each person a pretzel to toast, instead of the stein,” Vaughter said. “So, I thought the clink added some movement to the picture.”

The Stevens Point, Wis., native who’s lived in La Crosse two years says she had submitted a similar design for last year’s button contest but it didn’t win. 

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
