As I See It

We deserve an early end to alternate-side parking

Today is March 14th. There are 17 days remaining in the month, and 17 more nights of alternate side parking in La Crosse. 17 nights when we have to dutifully move our cars to the proper side of the street or risk getting a ticket. Of course, the reason, we’re told, that we have to move our cars is so that the snow plows can clear the streets of snow. Except there is no snow to clear. There hasn’t been for awhile. The forecast suggests more warm weather, with very little likelihood of any more snow. That’s why Mayor Tim Kabat should immediately suspend the alternate side parking season. If we are to believe that the reason we have to move our cars is anything other than to put money in the city’s pockets, then we should be able to park wherever we want for the rest of the month. Rudy’s is going to open this week. There should be a rule that when Rudy’s opens, alternate side parking should automatically end. If the Mayor won’t suspend the season, then police should give us a break and stop putting tickets on our windshields. Winter has ended for the season, and so should alternate side parking. Mother Nature is giving us a break this winter, and the city should as well. What do you say Mr. Mayor? The clock is ticking.
