Gas prices could be on rise

They’ve hovered at $1.99 too long, says expert

Any day now, the price of gas in La Crosse could hit the $2 level.

The pump price in the city has been frozen at $1.99 for the better part of a week, and Nick Jarmusz from Wisconsin AAA thought it would have passed $2 by now.

“We’re actually even a little bit overdue for the prices to be going up and that may be why it will be a little sharper, but we’re still about $.88 below where we were at this time last year,” he said.

Jarmusz says the price rise of about $.50 the past month is not out of line with the standard seasonal adjustment, as oil companies prepare their fuel for the summer.  And, as the year goes on, prices shouldn’t soar out of control.

“I would be really surprised if we got above $3.00 at any point in 2016,” he said. “We’ll probably be somewhere in the $2.00-2.50 range.”
