Lot ha set vacant for nearly a decade

After years spent as a vacant, city-owned green space, the old Naval Reserve site in La Crosse could be getting much closer to development.

The city’s Housing Rehabilitation Committee meets today to interview possible developers for the site on Green Bay Street.

Plans range from duplexes, targeted towards seniors, to single-family homes with a shared green space.

The city had hoped for several small homes to put on the lot, creating a so-called pocket neighborhood.

The Navy left town about a decade ago and the city cleared away the building there not long after.
